Listening and reading questions in the paper's style: hear a word and pick the characters, pick the meaning, choose the right tones. Exam mode is timed and marked at the end.

Checked word by word
Word lists copied around the internet often have missing words, wrong levels and wrong tones. HSK Prep's lists are built from the official syllabus and then checked automatically against three independent copies of the official data:
- 11,092 words: the count for every level matches the official syllabus
- Each word's position matches the syllabus PDF
- Every pinyin reading matches the official HSK word query data
- Every syllable is valid Mandarin with tone marks in the right place
- All 3,000 syllabus characters are covered
The few places where official sources disagree are listed openly on the sources & accuracy page.

Questions
What is HSK 3.0?
HSK 3.0 is the new version of China's standard Mandarin proficiency test, built on the Chinese Proficiency Grading Standards for International Chinese Language Education (GF 0025-2021). It has nine levels instead of six (levels 7–9 are taken as one exam), much larger word lists, and a speaking test for levels 3–6.
When is the first HSK 3.0 exam?
Chinese Testing International has announced that HSK 3.0 starts worldwide on 13 December 2026. Registration closes on 16 November 2026 (24:00 Beijing time) for the paper test and on 3 December 2026 for the computer test. See exam dates.
Are these the official word lists?
Yes. Every word, its level and its pinyin come from the official syllabus published by China's Ministry of Education and State Language Commission, and every reading was cross-checked against the official HSK word query data. Differences between the sources are listed on the sources page.
Do I have to take the speaking test?
For HSK 3, 4, 5 and 6, plan on it: in the 2026 pilot sittings candidates had to register for the matching speaking test, and test centers announcing the 13 December sitting say the same. Check your own booking page. HSK 1 and 2 have no speaking test. The app has timed practice for each part, with recording and playback. See the speaking test guide.
How does the audio work?
Words are read by your device's built-in Mandarin voice, so there are no audio files to download. iPhone, Android, Mac and Windows all have one; if yours isn't installed the app shows how to add it. Device voices occasionally misread characters with several readings, so those words are flagged and the checked pinyin is always shown.
Do I need an account?
No. Open the app and start. Your progress is saved in your browser, and you can export a backup file to move it to another device.
Lifetime pass or monthly?
If you're preparing for one sitting, either works. The lifetime pass costs about four months of the monthly plan and covers every level you'll go on to take.
